The Christmas season use to bring up thoughts of family get-togethers,
big dinners, fellowship with loved ones, a time of peace, joy and happiness.
Since that time in the 1950’s, 60 and 70’s everything has
changed: Hasn’t it? Now its rush, rush, rush, what to buy, how much
to spend, where to go, who to see, can we afford all this! Concerns and
demands have pushed frustration to a fever pitch, and all we want to do
is cry-out, “when is it all going to end!” Christmas cheer
has turned into disgust, and happiness into anger. Our peace has turned
into frustration, and a time of physical and spiritual blessing has turned
into an all around terrible burden. Christmas time is when we are to set
aside our burdens and appreciate life and all the goodness that it brings.
But even that has changed! It has now become a time when people appreciate
dying instead. More people commit suicide during the Christmas season
than at any other time of year. In short, the Christmas holidays have
become something to dread, not something to look forward to.
Christmas has lost its meaning in more ways then we think. Ask yourself
a simple question. What does Christmas really mean to me? Be honest in
your answer. When people were asked that question, the most common answers
were: Santa Claus, shopping, large lines, and traffic jams, buying gifts,
and financial debt. When the same question, “what does Christmas
really mean to me?” was asked of children, their most common answers
were: getting presents, Santa Claus, Rudolph the red nose reindeer, Frosty
the snowman, no school, and so on. Does that shock you? It shouldn’t!
Look around; everywhere we go there is another Santa Claus on a roof
top, in a store, on a street corner, and even in our windows and front
yards. The majority of Christmas stories on the radio and television have
nothing to do with the truth of this divine season. The Christmas holiday
we now celebrate is, for the most part, a LIE. We have taken Christ (X-mas)
right out of CHRIST-mas. In other words, this most divine and holy time
of year, or in all eternity for that matter, has become a FAKE! An artificial,
truly distorted, profit making, commercialized HOAX!
So exactly what is the real meaning of Christmas?
Isaiah 9:6 says;” For unto us a Child
is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting
Father, Prince of Peace.” JESUS is
the real meaning of Christmas! This prophecy was written by Isaiah, the
prophet, eight hundred (800) years before the birth of Christ, and has
found it’s fulfillment in JESUS’ birth, death and resurrection.
Now let’s examine exactly what this verse is saying. “For
unto us a Child is born.” God as a human child was born of a woman.
He was brought forth with pain and travail. He literally was expelled
to face our world filled with iniquity, sin, illness, and hatred. He was
a human child with the same fleshly desires, and needs we all have. Facing
all of life’s problems, just like you and I do (Philippians
2:7). The only difference was, He did not sin (Hebrews
“For unto us a SON is given.” As God’s only begotten
Son, He was given to us to be the perfect and complete sacrifice for the
sins of the world. “For God so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should
not perish but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the
world to condemn the world: but that the world through him might be saved
(John 3:16-17). God knowing the horrible
and totally helpless state man was in sent Jesus, His only begotten Son.
Who did not consider it robbery to be equal with God? He made Himself
of no reputation, and He came to earth as a man, restricting himself to
time, space, age and a corruptible human body. Then humbling Himself even
further by becoming His own creation’s servant and perfect willing
sacrifice (Philippians 2:5-11). But why did
He do it? For one purpose and one purpose alone, to bring us back to a
place of real peace, rest and joy in the Fathers presence
(Hebrews 4). So that God and His creation can have a real father/child
relationship. This relationship can only be found in, and through our
Lord Jesus Christ who is the only door. “But
as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children
of God, to those who believe in His name (John
As a son He was “GIVEN.” The word “Given” is
a word that implies a gift. One freely offered at no charge and with no
obligation, no fine print, and no strings attached. Jesus, God’s
only begotten Son was totally and freely “GIVEN.” Jesus frees
us from the wages of sin, and for our adoption into God’s family.
He was given to us to reestablish our relationship with our creator. A
creator that loves us beyond any love we have ever and can ever know.
Friends; Jesus is the true and real meaning of Christmas, is it not?
But instead of giving praise, adoration and recognition to this precious
free gift. We have taken Jesus’ cross (tree) the one He was nailed
to, hung, bled and died on, decorated it making it beautiful, then put
presents under it. Symbolically there is nothing wrong with a Christmas
tree or any of the Christmas festivities for that matter. Until we insult
the all knowing, all powerful, all loving God by making Him, a call to
order gift giver, who rides on a sled pulled by imaginary flying reindeer.
To top it all off we call this omnipresent loving God, “Santa Claus.”
We have taken His crown of thorns, which cut and pierced His skull and
made it into a beautiful wreath all decorated and pretty. We have taken
this one tune of year that most of the world has set aside to worship
the Creator and His ultimate sacrifice, and distorted it to the point
of non recognition. That is why Christmas has lost its true value, purpose
and meaning, and for what? For tradition; not truth or reality, and we
do all this without even taking a moment to consider what it is we are
What a tremendous gift God has given to us in His Son. But oh, how little
if anything, we have given Him in return. What a condemning reality it
is to discover that in the USA more children are familiar with Santa Claus
and his story then with the story of Jesus’ birth, and its corresponding
If we truly believe Christ is what He says He is, and has done what He
says He has done; are our holiday festivities showing that belief? Because,
believing is more complex then we have been taught. The word “believe”
is a verb, it demands action. In other words, our belief must be accompanied
by actions relating to and in direct relationship with that belief. If
it doesn’t it is not believing. For example, we belief that we will
wake up in the morning, therefore we make plans for tomorrow, that is
called believing. We believe that our car will start so we go out to it,
turn the key and fully expect it to do so. If we did not belief it would
start we would make other plans, such as catching a bus or having someone
pick us up. After all He did say that the people who love Him would do
what He commanded. They would follow His lifestyle. And the people who
do not love Him would not follow His commandments or His lifestyle (John
14:23-24). So ask yourself, am I living and doing what He commanded?
Is my life being lived as if He were with me, seeing everything I am doing,
hearing everything I am saying, and understanding everything that I am
thinking? Are my thoughts filled with His peace, joy, and praise? Are
my thoughts clouded with questions like what to buy, how much to spend,
where to go, who to see, can I afford all this? Have the season’s
concerns and demands pushed your frustration to a fever pitch, and all
you want to do is cry-out, “when is it all going to end?”
Am 1 giving God the respect, adoration, and worship He truly deserves
for His wonderful gift?
When the Lord Jesus asked this minister those exact questions, I was
ashamed that I could not answer them like I knew the questions should
have been answered? Can you answer them with a resounding “YES?”
Then maybe it’s time for all of us to celebrate Christmas with Christ
being at the center of our attention. Just pray now and ask the Lord Jesus
to forgive you of all the wrong you have done. Pray and ask Him to come
into your heart and give you the peace, joy and fulfillment of life you
are missing now. He said; “Behold I stand
at the door (of your heart) and knock If anyone bears My voice and opens
the door, I will come in to him and dine (fellowship) with him, and he
with Me (Revelation 3:20).”
Now add that with what Romans 10:9-10 says;
“that if you confess with your mouth the Lord
Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead,
you will be saved For with the heart one believes unto righteousness,
and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” God’s
love salvation, and fellowship are just a simple prayer and confession
away. Pray it today for tomorrow is promised to NO man!!! “Come
now, those saying, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city and spend
a year there, and we will trade and will make a profit, who do not know
of the morrow. For what is your life? For it is a vapor, which appears
for a little time, and then disappears (Jam
